The Jake Blade:
A NEW innovation for Benders and Divers!
The Jake Blade is an innovative breakthrough for guitarists looking for an alternative to the traditional “whammy bar." The Jake Blade allows the guitarist to stretch (bend) and collapse (dive) the strings by applying pressure from the fingers or palm to the blade. The range is much broader than a whammy, and with a little practice, the guitarist will notice enhanced tremolo effects. And perhaps best of all, unlike a traditional whammy, the Jake Blade’s ergonomic design does not get in your way as you play!
The original Jake Blade, patented in 2008 by Mark Benjamin, founder of RoughGauge LLC, was hand-made in small batches over an anvil, resulting in a truly unique yet durable product that guitarists like Jake Cinninger and Brendan Bayliss of Umphrey’s McGee have depended on show after show, year after year, with great success.
Unfortunately, a fire consumed the RoughGauge facility and all of the Jake Blade tooling in 2018. With years of product improvement ideas in his head, Mark set out with a clean slate to upgrade the product and the process. After an exhaustive search for a manufacturing partner, ironically, Mark struck gold with Frame Products, a first-quality precision machine shop in his hometown of Buchanan, Michigan. 🇺🇸
